Do I need Facelift Surgery?
People who have facial and neck wrinkles and whose skin is elastic enough to perform the surgery and who do not have severe health problems are ideal patients for this kind of surgery. Generally, it is performed on men and women who are over 40 years old. In order to create better and younger face; rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, forehead or eyebrow lifting and laser peeling may be performed during facelift surgery. For slim wrinkles, fillers may be injected or the surgeon may prefer peeling depending on the case.
How Facelift Surgery is performed?
Regular facelift surgery is performed in a hospital under the supervision of anesthesiologist in an operating room. It can be performed using general anesthesia, local anesthesia or intravenous sedation. If additional operations (rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery etc.) are needed the surgery takes more time.
Under normal conditions, this surgery takes 2 – 2,5 hours. The patients are generally discharged on the same day of surgery. If additional operations are needed, the surgery may take more time. In this case, surgeons recommend 1 day of hospitalization to the patient. Facelift surgery leaves scars but these scars are not visible. Scars are hidden under hairy temporal region, in front of ear and behind ear. If liposuction is done on double chin, it leaves an invisible scar of 3-5 cm. If eyelid and forehead surgeries are added, this would leave additional scars on eyelid and forehead inside hairy skin. Generally, these scars are not significant and they are concealable.
How does Facelift Surgery process goes?
Post-operative period of this surgery is generally comfortable for patients. There would be swelling, empurpling, the feeling of abirritation and tightness. As the facial nerves respond anesthesia there would be asymmetry on the face. These symptoms are gone in 3-5 days by itself. The face is swathed in bandage except eyes, nose and mouth. In some cases, drain is used in order to prevent congestion. Men patients tend to have congestion as their facial skin is different than women so drain is generally used for men patients. Drains are removed in 2 days. Bandages are unrolled after 2 days. Sutures are removed after 5-7 days.
How to return normal life after the surgery?
Generally, surgery results are satisfactory. In some cases revisions are needed. 1 week after the surgery, patients may return back to their job and they may make up. It is recommended that the patient avoids heavy exercise, excessive sunlight exposure and external blow. For men, the region behind the ear between hairy skin becomes narrow. For this reason, they should be careful while shaving. Epilation is also recommended for his case. It is better if men do not shave for 2-3 weeks. This new look after the surgery is affected by gravity in years so permanence of the surgery depends on the patient. In some cases, it lasts 5-10 years and for some, it is permanent for lifetime.
